Social Media Strategy

Marine Biological Laboratory

​Crafted a social media strategy from the ground up that reached across the MBL's vast audiences of research scientists, students, prospective donors, press, and the greater University of Chicago community. Led digital media creation and social media strategy for the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) in Woods Hole, MA. 
  • HIGHLIGHT: From 2019 - 2022, I grew social media followers by 400% and raised overall engagement by more than 250%. 
  • INITIATIVE: Launched #MicroscopyMonday initiative across social media, simultaneously highlighting two of MBL's strategic initiatives—novel research organisms and imaging—and driving audience engagement. 
  • SAMPLE CAMPAIGN: Based on the March Madness NCAA basketball tournament, the annual MBL March Madness campaign put popular research organisms head-to-head for pitted popular MBL research organisms for soca, your favorite MBL research organisms go head-to-head in a series of match-ups! View a PDF of the Campaign and Results

Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life

Designed the social media strategy for the New England Aquarium's newly-formed applied research institute: the Anderson Cabot Center for Ocean Life. In 2018, I grew social media numbers by nearly 200% across all platforms, tripling the number of followers. 
  • HIGHLIGHT: In 2018, I grew social media numbers by nearly 200%, tripling the number of followers. From November 2017 to November 2018, Facebook followers grew by 170%, twitter by 190%, and Instagram by 885%.
  • INSTAGRAM STORY: An Instagram Story highlighting the Anderson Cabot Center FSET Team. Went out in the field with researchers to collect photo/video/interviews. View the story campaign on instagram.
  • SAMPLE CAMPAIGN: Led a social media awareness campaign with partner agencies to highlight the risks of the current Administration to the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument. Result was a petition that exceeded target goal by 25%. Click to view a Google Doc of the campaign.​

The Accounts of the New England Aquarium President and CEO
August 2018 - February 2020

Led the team on a Facebook Live series featuring the New England Aquarium President and CEO Vikki Spruill. "Harborside Chats" took place monthly on the New England Aquarium Facebook Page. Spruill interviewed a member of the Aquarium staff to highlight the work happening around the institute and across the globe. Also Responsible for content curation for Spruill's Twitter presence (@VikkiSpruill).

Interim social media lead for the New England Aquarium, which had a reach of more than 600,000 followers across all platforms during the period in question. Responsible for driving traffic to the Aquarium gate, coordinating with an ad agency on weekly sponsored ads, and spreading the Aquarium's conservation and education messages through photo, video, and blog posts. ​

February 2016 - September 2017

Social media manager for NOAA Climate's official social media channels. Responsible for development of monthly social media campaigns and image creation to highlight the work across the agency. Led multiple cross-agency social media efforts and coordinated with social media managers across NOAA offices. 
  • HIGHLIGHT:  Doubled Facebook page followers to more than 100,000 in six months.
  • SAMPLE CAMPAIGN: Social Media Plan highlight to rollout a new section of the cross-agency U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit. View a Google Doc of the campaign.
