For the fifteen members of this year's Princeton University (PU) marine biology class, the time spent at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) was more than just a day at the beach. In late May, the sophomore and junior Princeton students arrived at sunny BIOS -- a far cry from the brick and mortar, Ivy League backdrop they’re used to in New Jersey. Here, they get the chance to experience the uniqueness involved with living and working at a scientific research institute.
This article was published in the Partnership for Observation of the Global Oceans July 2011 Newsletter The third class of POGOnian graduates headed home at the end of May and the year four trainees will arrive at the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences (BIOS) later this summer. The NF-POGO Centre of Excellence in Ocean Observations (CofE) at BIOS is a 10-month program designed to educate and expand observational oceanography around the world by offering training and experience to scientists from developing countries.
